Mimi Fox (guitar)

"Guitarist Mimi Fox and Vibraphonist Christian Tamburr both spend a significant amount of time touring and performing far from their homes in the Bay Area. It is clear however, that a priority when not on the road is to get together, laugh, tell stories, and make music. A new friendship and musical partnership has blossomed between Mimi and Christian who are eagerly taking advantage of this unique and exciting duo project. Both artists have similar musical tastes and find home in the great american song book while exploring more modern adaptations of pop standards and original compositions. Mimi has released nine recordings as a leader and her newest solo album "Standards Old and New" has been backed up by a nation wide tour of sold out performances. She has performed/recorded with some of the world's most commanding players including Charlie Byrd, Stanley Jordan, Diana Krall, and Stevie Wonder, and has been named a winner in 6 consecutive Downbeat Magazine international critic's polls. Christian's performance schedule stays busy with tours this year already to the Philippines, Italy, Greece, Turkey, and a feature concert at Lincoln Center in NYC. The most recent release "Places" by the Christian Tamburr Quartet rose to #7 in the Jazz Charts nationally, staying in the top ten for over a month. The exciting collaboration between the guitar and vibraphone marvels the senses and the personalities behind those instruments warm the heart. Bulgarian modern Jazz Guitarist/Composer Hristo Vitchev presents the music from his latest and critically acclaimed quartet session "Familiar Fields" with Brazilian piano sensation and Latin Grammy Nominee Weber Iago, virtuoso bassist Dan Robbins, and drummer extraordinaire Mike Shannon! http://www.hristovitchev.com “An ebb and flow unmatched, or perhaps unlike Vitchev, an ebb and flow that other artists simply can not match. As close to perfect as it gets!” - Brent Black (CriticalJazz.com) “The Hristo Vitchev Quartet, ladies and gentlemen, is in peak form. They have no competition: no other music in the jazz idiom is quite as satisfying.” - Grady Harp (Amazon.com) "Familiar Fields is a highly intelligent, thought-provoking Impressionistic escapade." - Nicholas Mondello (All About Jazz) This is one of the most culturally diverse and unique ensembles and the music they create surpasses any genres and boundaries. "Familiar Fields" marks Hristo Vitchev's 5th studio recording as a leader. The music presented in this session clearly displays the multidimensional tonal evolution of the band and each one of its individual members. The addition of drummer extraordinaire Mike Shannon to the quartet establishes a portal to new sonic landscapes and emotions to be explored in this collection of 9 original pieces by Vitchev. The music, which takes the listener through the realms of impressionistic, classical, jazz, experimental, and new age, always retains the unique sonic footprint that has brought critical acclaim to the quartet all over the world.

John Stowell : guitar
Richard Sears : piano

Studio Pink House is proud to invite you to a special duo performance featuring John Stowell on guitar and Richard Sears on piano.

John is a mainstay at acclaimed international jazz venues, and has worked with some of the finest musicians including Milt Jackson, Art Farmer, and Billy Higgins.
His playing is identified by his bold lyricism and harmonic complexity, that according to the Los Angeles Times, "transcends the label of jazz guitarist".

Richard, though many years John's junior, possesses a highly personalized style of playing that harkens earlier generations of jazz piano and his classical training.
Last year Richard competed as a finalist in the Jacksonville International Jazz Piano Competition, and has since made his first recording featuring his trio performing all original compositions.

The performance will feature Richard's original compositions as well as jazz standards. Joining Richard will be Martin Nevin (from New York) on bass and Kevin Yokota (from Los Angeles) on drums.

"In my quest for new sounds, I’ve been taking a lot of cues from 50’s and 60’s jazz musicians like Thelonious Monk, John Coltrane, Ornette Coleman, and Paul Bley. I’ve really grown to appreciate the lyricisms and simplicity that lies at the core of that music, and in my own composition I’ve tried to find that kind of simplicity within a more contemporary conception of rhythm and form. The music we'll be playing is challenging and requires a high degree of expression, and swing from the band members. I feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to work with Martin and Kevin for this concert as well as our forthcoming record"
